This gag order was in effect before during and after Murrin's trial.

A contempt of court charge has been dropped against a Vancouver newspaper which published a story about Shannon Murrin as a jury deliberated his fate. Murrin was acquitted last year of the murder of eight-year-old Mindy Tran of Kelowna. B-C Supreme Court Justice Alexander Henderson dropped the charges against the Province and reporter Fabian Dawson saying there was no real threat that the story caused an unfair trial. Henderson says the sheriffs did a good job preventing jurors from seeing the front page article. The January 20th story ran under the headline ``Tell me he didn't kill my daughter.'' The story described how Murrin was a suspect in the murder of an Edmonton girl in the early 1990's. ----
